Youth Bow

Postby shaneagee » Tue Mar 09, 2010 6:24 pm

What's a good youth bow for a little one ? I know Concept doen't have one for real young kids. but My son is 5 and really want to learn to shoot with me. He has about a 20 inch draw and is abot 3 foot 6 inches tall. I have seen some of the toys but I'd really like to find something that will grow with him. If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appriciate it.

Diamond makes the Nuclear Ice, it comes with sights, rest, and quiver. It's a split limb bow , adjustable poundage from around 10 lbs to 24 lbs and draw length 13 to 23 inches.it shoots around 200 fps.price is less than $200.00. Maybe Concept will have one in the future, then I'll get one for my grandson.

Sharons' first bow was the Bear Odyssey. It has a draw range of 17 to 25 inches and hers went from 35 to 50 pounds. They do make them with lighter limbs. The only drawback of this bow is the 5 inch brace height. It brings the phrase, slap on the wrist a whole new meaning. Fast, and quiet. IBO rating, is 279 which ain't that shabby for a 50 pound bow. It's the bow we let youngsters use for their first time bowfishing.

a recurve is not a bad way to start out either. it teaches the basics of archery, is good for quick growing kids, and if you master the recurve, going to a compound is that much easier.

the one recommended by vettehead sounds good as well.

maybe one day we will have lower end models available, of course we would have to cut corners to offer a bow anywhere near that price range, mostly on our machined riser. anyway you can get kids or new comers to archery, by all means do it.

let me know what you get and how it works out.
