Need some help:
Here's the situation with the GE hog hunt -
1) Fort Benning - so far it is looking like we need to have a sponsor (someone with a military ID card - we have 2 as of now) that would be allowed to take 3 guests in one of the 3 units. The total acreage is 160,000 so these units are large. Last count was 4,500 pigs at minimum, and they're expecting a higher count for 2010.
I'm not to fond of this in case something happens to one of our sponsors and can't make it and don't want to have to look for more sponsors to cover our group. They all would need to go out everyday with us so it might be hard getting committed sponsors.
I am however waiting for a call back from another person in charge of recreation who thinks we can do a corporate hunt but he will not be in until Thursday. If we can not do a corporate hunt, Fort Benning is out.
2) Chickasawhatchee WMA - little further south and lots of pigs there. I spoke with F&W biologists and a Conservation Officer who think we would be very successful here even with archery equipment. Great thing is we can still go May 9th - 15th which is turkey season. Regulations state as long as there is an open season for some other type of game, you can legally hunt pigs with weapons only allowed for that game (shotgun and bow for turkey). The area gets hunted a little hard on the week of May 25th which is a one week, all weapons, swine only hunt - I rather avoid this, hunt with archery only equipment, and have the place to ourselves. 20,000 acres and only turkey hunters would be on there and not that big of a turkey area. Cost would be the $100 small game annual license, and a $73 WMA permit. Turkey license is $195 annual or $90 for 3 day if anyone is interested.
Problem is we need a place to stay.
What I'm looking for is cabin/chalet rentals that sleeps 6 or more. At minimum I think we are going to need a rental or rentals up to 12 and I would like to maybe make the cut off at 16, first come first serve.
The area is by Newton and Albany GA. Also borders Baker, Calhoun, and Dougherty Counties http://www.georgiawildlife.com/maps/hunting/region5If you come across something, wouldn't mind doing a little google searching, or know the area, please let me know.
Still would be open for a TN (or other state) hog hunt as long as it's free range and has accommodations for a large group, that's what FB had and it still may come through?
